합천박물관은 애초 옥전고분군의 유물을 전시하기 위한 유물전시관으로 2004년 개관하였으나 군민들에게 합천의 역사 전반을 알려야 할 필요성 때문에 2011년 6월 박물관 옆의 부지에 역사관을 착공하여 마침내 준공을 보게 된 것이다. <br />

합천역사실은 합천의 연혁, 사진과 해설로 보는 합천의 유적과 관광지, 대야성 전투, 고려 현종과 합천, 남명과 내암, 임진왜란과 합천, 합천의 향교와 서원, 합천의 고건축, 합천의 절터, 한말의병운동 및 삼일운동과 합천 등의 코너로 구성되어 있어 합천 역사를 한 눈에 살펴볼 수 있도록 하였다. <br />

빔프로젝트와 음향기기, 방음시설 등을 갖추어 원활한 수업 진행이 되도록 준비하였다.<br />

어린이체험실에는 다라국 왕과 왕비 옷 입어보기, 갑옷 입어보기, 탁본하기, 발굴체험, 스크래치 놀이 등 다양한 체험 시설을 갖추어 박물관을 찾는 어린이들에게 체험을 하며 역사와 문화를 이해할 수 있도록 꾸며놓았다.<br />
야외에는 다라국의 교역활동을 알 수 있는 고대 배를 복원하여 전시하고 있다.</span> <br />
